John David Buckmaster is an Emeritus Professor of Department of Aerospace Engineering at University of Illinois, specialized in the field of combustion He finished his bachelor's degree from Imperial College London in and completed PhD under the supervision of Geoffrey S.S. Ludford from Cornell University in Alma mater: Imperial College London, Cornell .

    He is editor-in-chief of Environmental Modeling and Assessment and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, Mathematical Methods of Operations Research (Zeitschrift fur OR) and International Game Theory Reviews.   Also, combustion-specific topics of chemistry and fluid mechanics are considered and tools described for the simulation of combustion processes. The actual fourth edition presents a completely restructured book: Mathematical Formulae and derivations as well as the space-consuming reaction mechanisms have been replaced from the text to appendix.

    This volume contains invited lectures and contributed papers presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Mathematical Modeling in Combustion and related topics, held in. Lyon (France), April 27 - 30, This conference was planned to fit in with the two-month visit of Professor G.S.S. Ludford to the Ecole Centrale de Lyon. First, the author provides an introduction to modeling, the basic model categories, and analytical methods followed by an introduction to combustion that includes equipment and mathematical modeling. Next, he introduces the concepts and procedures of experimental design and provides detailed discussion on how to analyze non-ideal data.
