Evidence-based dentistry relies on standard methodology and instruments for searching the available evidence, for analyzing the quality of research reports (ie, internal and external validity. Sensitivity = a/(a + c). Sensitivity measures the proportion of patients with the disease who also test positive for the disease in this study. It is the probability that a person with the disease will have a positive test result. Specificity = d/(b + d). Specificity measures the proportion of patients without the disease who also test negative for the disease in this study.

Evidence-based guidelines and professional recommendations should prevail; however, as Kent Anderson recently reminded us, norms and assumptions, even science, are no longer certain. We live in strange times and in a bizarre political climate, unlike anything we have ever seen. 2.   Evidence based practice allows nurses to enrich their clinical training and experience with up to date research. With the large amount of research and information that exists in nursing, learning the skills of evidence based practice allows nurses to search for, assess, and apply the literature to their clinical situations.

This process, of course, assumes that we can locate and retrieve the relevant research literature. The purpose of this chapter is to describe strategies for successful literature searches that will serve the full range of information-seeking needs to support evidence-based . Section 2 Skills for evidence-based practice. 2 How to ask the right question. 3 Searching the literature. 4 Using evidence from qualitative studies. 5 Using evidence from quantitative studies. 6 Using evidence from systematic reviews. 7 Evidence-based guidelines. 8 Using research evidence in making clinical decisions with individual patients.

Background: Written action plans for asthma facilitate the early detection and treatment of an asthma exacerbation. Several versions of action plans have been published but the key components have not been determined. A study was undertaken to determine the impact of individual components of written action plans on asthma health by:   PubMed (an open access database), MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library and Ovid (subscription databases available through the Northcentral University Library) are excellent resources to use when in need of evidence based literature.

PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and many other medical databases use MeSH subject headings as the official terms to describe. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Researchers often struggle with the gap between efficacy and effectiveness in clinical research.

To bridge this gap, the Community Healthcare for Asthma Management and Prevention of Symptoms (CHAMPS) study adapted an efficacious, randomized controlled trial that resulted in evidence-based asthma interventions Cited by: 6. Evidence Based Paper (Asthma) Evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing refers to one of the newly emerging paradigms or methodologies employed in clinical practice in StudentShare Our website is a unique platform where students can share their papers in a matter of giving an example of the work to be done.

Results: Three studies were evidence-based, two effective, nine promising, and 1 emerging. Working with a medical librarian, the committee was able to refine the literature searches and the libraries are now available for use by anyone who would like to develop a research paper.

Each literature search covers the relevant articles from the major searchable databases for the previous 10 years. Evidence-Based Asthma Management with School-age Children The Centers for Disease Control (CDC, ) estimates million children are diagnosed with asthma in their lifetimes, and approximately million of those children continue to struggle with asthma.

Children ages five to nine years old have the highest incidence. rom studies and patient care data with clinician expertise and patient preferences and values.

When delivered in a context of caring and in a supportive organizational culture, the highest quality of care and best patient outcomes can be achieved.

The purpose of this series is to give nurses the knowledge and skills they need to implement EBP consistently, one step at a time. ment unless there is a bacterial comorbidity, but further research is needed on the relationship between sinusitis and asthma exacerbation.

The asthma care plan should include a written asthma action plan for the patient, but there is inadequate evidence as to whether the asthma action plan should be based on symptoms or on peak flow monitoring. Searching for high-quality clinical research evidence – whether you are a nurse or a researcher – can be a daunting task, yet it is an integral part of the evidence-based practice process.

One way to streamline the nursing research process for nurses and researchers of all backgrounds is to utilize the PICO search strategy. Evidence-based Clinical Chinese Medicine: Adult Asthma provides a "whole evidence" analysis of the Chinese medicine management of adult asthma.

Evidence from the classical Chinese medicine literature, contemporary clinical literature, the outcomes of clinical trials and experimental studies are reviewed, analysed and cturer: World Scientific Publishing Company.

The evidence-based journal series (Evidence-Based Nursing, Evidence-Based Medicine, and Evidence-Based Mental Health) and ACP Journal Club are examples of distilled information sources.

Research articles of the highest methodological quality are identified by searching the current international healthcare literature. MedScience Research Group along with its divisions AllergiEnd and AllergiEnd aim to enhance our clients’ quality of life through research, evidence-based diagnostics, innovative intervention, education, promotion and distribution, while also enhancing the physician’s medical practice.

Our diagnostic systems and allergen immunotherapy methods are known for achieving meaningful. Literature review. The literature search in the oldest included guideline (CTS) was performed in October Accordingly, we searched for English-language studies involving human adult subjects, using asthma search terms as MeSH and keywords in Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials from January to March (a complete list of search.

Aims: To evaluate a systematic approach to the development and implementation of evidence based asthma management guidelines. Methods: Comparative study of children (2–18 years) with acute asthma; a control cohort (cohort 1) was recruited before implementation of the guidelines and two cohorts were recruited after implementation (cohorts 2 and 3).

In another study on the global burden of asthma, 14% of the world’s children and % of adults are reported to have asthma symptoms while % of adults have been diagnosed with asthma infection (Asher et al., ). From the results, it is evidence that the global asthma burden is greater in children than adults.
